I Dream of a Lilac Galaxy

 photo Domino-Dollhouse-Galaxy-dress-01_zpsed763dff.jpg
Its Autumn here in the Australia but Melbourne had a lovely warm weekend recently where I was able to go outside without tights on. As a socks and sandals fan I was happy to be able to wear my new lilac juju jelly heels with socks sans tights for their very first outing as it will probably the last time I'll be able to do so for a while. Matching my purple theme is my new Domino Dollhouse Galaxy Babydoll dress that I was sent to review. Domino Dollhouse is one of the few plus size brands that make truly fashion forward pieces that go beyond the norm, they make clothes for those not afraid to be seen. This dress is one I'd had my eye on for a while but I kept missing it being in stock in my size. I'm so happy to finally have it, its such an awesome statement making piece.

Illuminati

 photo Illuminati01_zpsc03569b0.jpg
I spotted this iridescent tote bag from across the street and rushed inside Sportsgirl to buy it. I've been in need of a new everyday bag that fits all my crap as well as my bulky SLR so finding this was a godsend. I've only seen iridescent clutches, and I really don't need any more clutches (just ask Henry) so the fact that this is a useful and practical tote as well as being iridescent is why I rushed to buy it. Whenever I'm out shopping with Henry and I spot a bag I like, his first comment is "will your bloody camera fit"? You see, if I wear a clutch bag Henry always ends up having to carry my camera and its his most hated thing in the world (well you'd think so at least with the way he complains about it). So you could say this bag is a relationship saver too.

Outfit details
Leather biker jacket Vintage from Vintage Sole on Brunswick St
Pleather peplum top River Island from ASOS
Illuminati pencil skirt Freak of Nature from ASOS
Melting Chanel logo necklace Fashiondacci
Lilac specs Bespecd Minsk in Lilac
Iridescent tote bag Sportsgirl only $39.95 (looks like its not online yet, it was new in store today)
Black lace frill socks Sydney's China Town (similar here)
Black biker boots Old season ASOS (similar here, here & here)

Arggg I hate all my flyaway hairs, anyone have any tips for how to control them and stop them from happening? My hair is so fine and there isn't much of it so I really don't need these breakages. My Bespecd glassed have been getting so many compliments which is a first for a pair of prescription specs for me so I couldn't be happier with them. The melting Chanel logo necklace from Fashiondacci reminds me of things I'd see on the streets of Harajuku. It's also rather ironic seeing as my style is the opposite of that old Coco Chanel quote "Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one thing off".

 photo Illuminati03_zps19379e86.jpg
The Freak of Nature skirt from ASOS reminded me of prints I would wear in the 90's, in particular these popular singlets that I remember every teenage girl having. Thus I couldn't pass up getting the skirt although I worried about sizing but the 14 fits me perfectly.

Look how awesome the iridescent nature of this tote bag is. So much metallic rainbow goodness.

These ASOS biker boots are a few seasons old but are proving perfect for the rainy weather Melbourne has been having.

Snake charmer

 photo Verner02_zps8c8763b6.jpg
One of my all time favourite Australian labels was the Melbourne brand TV by Monika Tywanek & Ingrid Verner. TV had a strong cult following and even showed at Australian fashion week in 2009 (back when it was still called RAFW). I have featured the brand on my blog a lot over the years (here, here, here & here) and I was even lucky enough to go behind the scenes on one of their last look-book shoots with the still relatively unknown at the time Samantha Harris. They sadly parted ways in 2011 but the V in TV, Ingrid Verner, is back with her own eponymous label; Verner. Staying true to TV's heyday, Verner has those familiar playful prints and unique silhouettes that TV epitomised but it has moved towards a more quirky aesthetic, if that was even possible. I picked up this Verner dress at a recent sample sale here in Melbourne and its fast become one of my favourite pieces in my wardrobe. I can't wait to see what Verner do next.

Outfit details

Resin spike necklace Kate Rohde from Edition X
Lilac cateye glasses Bespecd Minsk in Lilac
Killer python resin bangle Eat Me Do
Cat face bag Fashiondacci
Neon fish socks Gift
Glitter jelly heels Juju glitter heels from Topshop

I am so in love with my new specs from Bespecd that the lovely Bespecd team sent me. If you're a glasses wearer then you'd know that finding glasses that you like and that are affordable is an almost impossible task so when I saw Bespecd's amazing new season collection full of so many frames that I loved all priced at $95 including prescription I was beyond excited. I chose the Minsk in Lilac but I was also tempted by the Porto in midnight black, the Nara in both the rose pink and the speckled tortoise and the Treviso in white marble, but pretty much all of them caught my eye and I'll probably end up buying a few more pairs very soon!

 photo Cat-bag01_zps4361ee20.jpg
Getting in on the cat bag trend I picked up this beauty at Fashiondacci here in Melbourne. Fashiondacci have redesigned their online store so it's easy to navigate and this bag is currently available but selling fast. Cho kawaii!

My Clara H Nails are holding up well nearly 3 weeks in. Have you got your nails done with my Fashion Hayley x Clara H Nails $50 deal? Don't forget to instagram your nails tagging me @fashionhayley cos I wanna see the fabulous results.

I've been following local Melbourne jewellery label Eat Me Do's work for a while now as they've been growing and expanding their line. The label's offerings are all based on food, with fruit, coloured popcorn, ravioli and even broccoli turning up as colourful wearable  and realistic jewellery pieces. When I saw the killer python bangle I knew I had to have it as it looked just like the popular Australian lolly plus its only $40!

 photo Verner05_zps5a9bf214.jpg
I have no idea where I got these cute fish socks from but I feel they were a Christmas pressie last year. I'm sooooo happy to finally have clear glitter jelly heels back in my possession. I have a fond memory of buying my first pair when I was 12. I saw them at my local Sportsgirl when shopping with my mum but they had sold out of my size and the Melbourne Central store was the only place that still had them. I begged and begged my mum for them until she was fed up and said I could go into the city on my own for the first time ever and buy them for myself. So into the big scary city I went, straight to Sportsgirl to buy my clear glitter jelly heels. Unfortunately I grew out of them in my teen years but I have never forgotten them, heck I blogged about wanting a pair back in 2008 so to finally have a pair again is a dream come true. I got mine from Topshop but ASOS have them in occasionally too (they sell out fast).

Win a $1000 shopping spree thanks to Berlei

Sponsored Post
 photo Berlei01_zps38e41005.jpg

Berlei sent me a few pairs of their new Dig-Free legwear to test out on a $500 shopping spree that was on them. The thing with the tights is they're not like other tights, they have a special smoothing waistband and are designed without a front seam, the idea being that they smooth out your lumps and bumps and don't need to be adjusted all day. Now I didn't actually believe their spiel before I tried out the tights because my experience of tights is that the packet always lies. Extra Tall means doesn't go up past my knees and no rip means they tear within seconds of me putting them on. Also how many of you ladies are always pulling at your tights the whole day? The only fix being putting on an extra pair of knickers over your tights to help them stay up? This is actually why I'd stopped wearing tights in recent years as my husband complains to no end when I'm constantly stopping to pull them up (it could also be living in Sydney meant it never really got cold enough). Anyway I was surprised, no shocked, that these tights did actually stay up, there was no digging around at all for the whole day!!! I wanted to test out the other smoothing spanx like benefits to full effect so I wore a dress I've avoided since buying even though I love it because I felt frumpy in it. Well again they worked as advertised, I didn't feel exposed, like my belly was on full view jiggling all over the place, because the tights held me in. While I am quite confident and body positive I do still want to look my best and when I feel exposed in an outfit I tend to avoid it. But now I can wear this cute strawberry print dress throughout winter with these new tights, my only wish was that they came in colours other than black or even some fun prints or designs.

I decided to visit some of my favourite independent Melbourne boutiques on my $500 shopping spree. Top on my list was Dagmar Rousset on Gertrude Street, Fitzroy. You may remember I blogged about them at their previous location in Brunswick but in my time away they opened up in Fitzroy and have become a much loved fixture in the area, hosting French lessons and local artists exhibitions.

Clothing by cult labels such as PAM, Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, Andrea Crews, Kinoak and ALL knitwear line the racks.

Yay colour!

It really is such a beautiful space that Julia Pound has created. Her love of colour and quirky design is evident in every nook and cranny of the shop. A must visit when you are in Melbourne!

Visiting Lady Petrova is like stepping into a little girls bedroom with its cute pastel toned clothing and sparkly -well everything. I've been a Lady Petrova fan since way back and its always nice to stop by and have a chat with the lady herself. Located down Scott Alley, just off Flinders Lane, the store is a welcome spot of kawaii and colour in the city.

Petrova has some amazing new designers in at the moment, like these awesome sequin pieces by House of Cards.

I've blogged about Corky Saint Clair a fair amount but I truly love it down there. Yes down, as the store is located in the Degraves Subway, its like a dungeon down there. Chris the owner is a great friend of mine, I never tire of his hilarious stories of crazy customers or his buying trips abroad.

 photo Corky04_zps51a4cd8f.jpg
The jewellery is all hand made either by Chris's own in-house label Corky or by local and international jewellers.

Lenko is where I go for bright streetwear and fun accessories. I love how the shop supports local up and coming designers but has a mix of the more established too.

 photo Lenko06_zpsfd6e0857.jpg
Bright clothes by Somewhere, Lazy Oaf, Limedrop, Evil Twin and more there is always something on the racks that calls out to me.
