Savers and closing down sales

Here I am in 2 more of my Footscray Savers finds, the black skirt was $5.99 and the check shirt was $3.99.
Skirt: I hardly ever wear skirts anymore, so I was a bit apprehensive about it at first, because I thought maybe I wouldn't really wear it. Well here I am wearing it and I think its fine. I love that its high waisted, but I think its a little long so maybe I will shorten it, but I already have like 10 sewing projects that I need to do so I doubt I'll ever bother...gah I wish I wasn't so lazy.
Top: I keep seeing similar shirts EVERYWHERE, this one even has the same fastening flaps on the arm to hold up the rolled up sleeves like all the ones I have seen in the shops...Its weird that it was from Savers considering how "now" it is....
Necklace: Its the one I got for $1 at the Country Road at DFO Spencer street...I love this necklace.
I am also wearing a gold bird broach I bought years and years ago for $12 at Hunter Gatherer in Fitzroy.
My belt and leggings are as per usual...I need new comfy leggings and a cool belt sooo bad.

We went down to Fitzroy for breakfast at 2:30 in the afternoon and then some cake...mmmmm what a nice lazy Sunday.

While down there we noticed a closing down sale at Aboh shoes on Brunswick Street, Fitzroy. I ended up with some more new shoes.

They are actually men's shoes that Henry was thinking about buying but he decided on another pair...I liked them heaps so I was like, well I'll try them on and voila I love them.
At the SALE all men's shoes were $65 and all woman's shoes were $35 or woman's boots for $55. So as these were men's they were $65. Henry got some brown shoes to wear to his new Interior Designer job...and some new black work pants from Clear It, the Dangerfield outlet store also on Brunswick street... It's so exciting that he has this job, his future is set!

We had such a nice day of shopping and eating...ahhh I love Sundays.

I also had my good friend who is leaving to go to the UK for a year next week over for drinks at our place. Here we are, really drunk...and Hachiko and me have the exact same facial expression...what's with that?

Madonna, Lourdes and me: Who wore it first?

Who wore it first?

African print dress:

Me

or Madonna?
The answer is me. I wore mine on the 8th of April 2008 and Madonna wore hers last Thursday the 24th of April. I win. YAY. Plus I'm guessing mine was a whole lot cheaper what with coming from Savers and all.

Hipster Specs:

Me

or Lourdes?
The answer again is me! I wore mine on the 18th of April and Lourdes the 25th of April. Again I'm guessing mine were cheaper. This just shows you don't need to be rich to be super fashionable.

I am finally better too by the way. It took longer than I thought. I just hope I never get tonsillitis again!

5 things

"A dreamer" over at Aus Style has tagged me for 5 things.

I swap bags almost daily but I always have
-my purse
-keys
-digital camera
-make up bag (if it fits)
-my mobile phone.

5 Things found in my purse:
-I never have cash as I always try to use eftpos (bank card) because it limits my spending so in my purse you will find my bank card and visa debit card
-a lot of tram tickets (I found some train tickets from Japan and 1 metro card from New York in there...I went to NYC in 2005/2006 I really need to clean out my purse)
-lots of receipts
-my target lay by card
-Artbox membership card (artbox is a Korean stationary shop in the city, I love cute stationary and with the membership you get lots of free stuff).

5 Favourite things in my room:
-Henry is always in there so him
-my comfy queen sized bed after 1 year of sleeping on a single sofa bed in Japan
-my beautiful retro pink dressing table from the Salvos in Richmond
-My Yukata (Summer Kimono) which hangs above the bed from Uniqlo in Japan
-my plastic wall pockets from Japan which hold photos, necklaces, party invites and other mementos of friends, family and good times (my year 12 formal ticket is in there, that was 7 years ago and I went with Henry, he wore a cool suit from Savers and I work an ugly dress by Alannah Hill, but its fun to remember)

5 Things I always wanted to do:
-Well I always wanted to live overseas so I have done that, but I still want to do it again.
-I have always wanted to open a shop which I will hopefully do in the next few years.
-I have always wanted to learn a language which I am currently working on but ahhh Japanese is difficult.
-I've always wanted to learn how to play piano, I had lessons as a kid but didn't continue.
-Lastly I've always wanted to have children before I am 30, but I'm not so sure now, that only gives me 6 more years of freedom, lol I am not ready yet.

5 Things I am currently into:
-I am into interior design
-reading way too many blogs
-speaking to old friends
-Savers in Footscray
-spending time with Henry.

The person who tagged you is: A Dreamer

Your 5 impressions of her: Really young but very adult at the same time, smart and fashionable, into socks and drawing.

Sick

I have tonsillitis which I have never had before. I didn't know it makes you vomit and feel sick all over not just in your throat. I hopefully will be back in 2 or 3 days with some interesting fashion posts when I feel better. Its hard to sit up and blog or look at blogs without feeling nauseous and I am meant to be doing homework....argggg.

Melbourne Street Fashion: Party Pics

I am not really happy with my new camera. The shutter reaction time at night time is really really slow and the main reason I bought this camera was all the reviews said that it had amazingly fast night time shutter speed. Arhhhgggg so annoying. Also all the photos end up blurry at night too. I am not sure if it's because it was running out of battery power or what so I'm going to test it again tonight and if its still that bad I'm going to have to take it back. Damn it's so annoying, especially as I saw heaps and heaps of AMAZINGLY dressed FASHIONABLE people at this party but I couldn't take any photos because it just got so annoying. So please excuse the bad quality pics...it could be that I'm just not used to the camera or it could be the camera is shit.

The girl in the red is a fashion designer for some label that I forget and she is going to Sydney for Fashion Week next week. I love the blonde's whole look, especially the leather skirt.

I like her headband.

Ok this is a bad photo, but she seriously looked like a Melbourne Agness Deyn. Teddy is always super fashionable and funny.

Boozing in the lane. It was way too crowded inside the house. The dance floor in the lounge room was so packed, people were swinging from the chandelier.

Benedict in the dirty alleyway. The police tried to close the party down all night. No one would leave. Apparently it was still going strong at 10am the next day (I left at 3am because I had work in the morning)

Tony was still dj-ing at 10am the next morning...he already looks totally fucked here.

My new gold old lady cardigan from Savers for $5.99. I look angry because Henry was being annoying about taking the photo...he gets shy in public and doesn't like flashes going off. It gets annoying, but I still love him.

New glasses

Yay. I finally found some new specs that I could actually afford. I've wanted glasses like this for ages, I have some from Japan but no place would put my prescription in them because they are not a good quality plastic and they would crack apparently. So Henry found an optometrist near Chinatown that looked like it was stuck in the 1980's. In fact these glasses are from the 80's, as the optometrist got them down for me he said no one has asked to see these for 10 years...lol. They were only $35 plus my prescription so all up $125. Such a good bargain. I love the gold on each end. They are a little bigger than I would have liked but I think that kinda makes them cooler. I wore them to work tonight and got a lot of stares (possible imagined)...I think I could get teased in them at uni by some of the jocks, but oh well its worth it cos I can actually see with my new prescription, my old glasses are almost useless now.

Oh and I cut my own fringe, its not the best job and its shorter than I normally like, I did it in a hurry before my eye exam so I could actually do the tests without hair in my eyes.

My necklace is new too. It was $29 from Kinki Gerlinki in Fitzroy. Henry thought I looked like an architect today with my blunt fringe, hip specs, black dress and wooden necklace. (Henry just got his 1st real job at an architects office today, one day a week until he finishes uni at the end of the year then permanent. I am so happy for him, and now we both have jobs right across from our apartment, so convenient!!!)

Tie Dye

My new creation. (My hair is greasy because I woke up very very late for uni and had no time to wash it...never again will I do this because I felt gross all day even though I had had a shower without washing my hair it makes me feel dirty)

So I covered up my hair with my sequin beret from Portmans bargain basement in Bourke Street for $3. Notice my fringe is off my face? That's because I desperately need a fringe trim, I can't see any more!!!

Here I am with my parka. It looked better in person maybe but we are still just getting used to my new camera.

My tie dying skillllz. Pretty cool hey? Henry wants me to do him a few t-shirts.

I have wanted to do this project for ages. A few months ago Henry got me this white dress at Dimmeys for $7 but I couldn't wear it because it was too see through. So I finally went and got some black fabric dye and rubber bands and set to work tie dying the dress. What do you think? Its not very black and I'm not sure why, I think I didn't have it in the dye bath for long enough. Other than that I'm sooo happy with the result.

I am also wearing another new pair of shoes. I seriously need to stop buying shoes, I have no room for any more. These gold plim soles (or chicken shop shoes) were only $7.94 at BigW. They get complements EVERY DAY that I have worn them. I guess they are cute.

Also I re-discovered an old Ne-net bag I have from Japan. It was meant to be $100 or 10,000Yen but I got it FREE when I bought my dress as a special 1 day only promotion (apparently...this is what I understood with minimal Japanese and English so who knows, maybe its always fee?) I've been using it as my uni bag because its so big and light. The writing on the front means "boring boy", which was the collection name/inspiration for summer 2007. Thats the collection that I went to the run way parade of...my favourite collection of theirs of course. Thats why I can't get into runway photos...I need to feel connected to it by actually seeing it in person rather than photos..Well sometimes... Maybe I just like the theatre of a show?

Melbourne Spank Girl

I can't believe what just happened. I was in Footscray at Savers and I saw this girl who was dressed exactly like the Spank girls. I had my NEW camera on me so I was going to take her photo but I got a bit shy. Luckily though she was on my train (I'm not a stalker!!!) So I worked up enough courage to ask her if I could take her photo. She said yes (that's her and her best friend in the photo above). I also asked if she knew of Spank in Japan...Well guess what! She does, she actually lived in Japan around the same time that I did...oh and she is friends with the Toxic Lipstick girls as well as the Spank Girls and is the one who introduced the Spank girls to Toxic Lipstick!!! (Spank girls were my best friends in Japan and Toxic Lipstick are 2 Aussie girls who are in a band and live/lived in Osaka, they ALWAYS play at Spank parties)

She was wearing a necklace that was made by Toxic Lipstick and I thought I recognised it. She also had a kawaii pink bow in her hair that I forgot to photograph...Henry never lets me wear my giant bow in Australia...we get stared at too much. It was so weird because she knew all the same people and stuff I knew. She is also into art and fashion and music and she is really nice and friendly. We exchanged emails so I will hopefully have a new friend who actually knows what I'm going through with Tokyo withdrawals! So happy.

She bought these faux Reebok's at Savers!

The necklace that Toxic Lipstick made. So kawaii!

She also had this cute pin by Toxic Lipstick...sorry the photo is blurry still getting used to my new camera.

Worlds messiest shop?

The outside isn't too bad. I like how the shop is simply called "Gift Shop"

This is the "not messy section"

Ah here you go some mess.

This is when it gets crazy. Who is going to buy a crumpled up notebook? Me that's who! Lol

Ahhh yeah. Crazy messy. This isn't as bad as the kitchen goods area, but that area had shop staff in it so I couldn't take a photo.

This is one of my fave shops in Footscray near my university. Its just so messy. Its an Asian $2 shop . I think the store policy on shelving is just shove the shit it in and hope for the best. There is just no order. But that's what I love about it. You can dig around for ages to find the perfect thing. I took my friend Tony the dj and he found a fold up keyboard under a whole lotta other crap. So lucky it wasn't broken as it wasn't in a box.

The pricing is random too. Lots of things have no price sticker so its up to the cash register staff to come up with the price. Sometimes its very steep for what is essentially dirty crap you found on the floor, sometimes though you can find yourself a bargain.

You really have to love Footscray. Its got everything you need, a Savers (I got heaps of stuff today, I'll show you tomorrow) and a discount department store called Dimmeys, a Not Quite Right style supermarket (things past their use by date end up here, or damaged cans...I got $2 Camembert cheese and it isn't even off for 2 weeks yay!), lots and lots of $2 shops, Great Vietnamese restaurants and bakery's ($1.50 bread stick to eat with my cheese for dinner...I felt a bit frenchy in my outfit), a Kmart (like Walmart), a fresh food market along with Vietnamese grocery's. Ohhh and don't forget the hip hop shops full of recent African immigrants/refugees (They aren't African American so I don't get this, but I guess they look up to them?). There is also heaps of Middle eastern and Indian restaurants. The only bad thing about the area is the Junkies who are there cos its cheap, Centrelink is nearby (government dole agency) and the dealers live here. There is one funny crazy old homeless woman. She has become known to me and my friends as the "Banana lounge lady" because basically she is this huge fat lady in a short mu mu floral dress who leans up against walls and doorways (normally the door of an open bank or under an ATM so you have to climb over her to enter!) lying on her side with her knickers on show, using the pavement as a banana lounge. She has been seen in the city on Elizabeth Street too. Honestly what more can you ask for? Its like another planet compared to the clean tame CBD. I LOVE FOOTSCRAY!!!

New Camera

I got a new camera the other day. My scholarship money came through finally (with a letter and certificate from the deputy prime minister Julia Gillard no less) so off I went to find a camera. It was so hard trying to work out which camera was best for my small budget (about $150). I just wanted a camera that is small enough to take with me everyday because my digital slr just is too heavy and annoying (but it does look cool and professional) So in the end I found a Sony cybershot s700 on sale for $129 at Officeworks. Such a bargain. Its 7.2mp with 3x optical zoom. Its small and cute. I did want to get one of those fuji finepix in red but they were $300 for not much more features except its a cuter camera and I really prefer fuji (all my other cameras are fuji except the new sony one) Anyway so now I will always have a camera on hand for those important street shots and sneaky store pics. Yay.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder?

Hey everyone sorry I haven't posted in a few days, I've been really busy since uni went back after the Easter break. I have so much homework (making 2 websites from scratch for different classes and a whole book for another class all on programs I have never ever used before!!!!! arrrrggggg!!!) Due to this the promised Tokyo guide has been shelved for now, hopefully I will have it done soon-ish...I'm using it for the uni project where I have to make a book...I'm making a guide book. So that's due in 6 weeks so hopefully by then some will be on here. Sorry guys you know how it is when life just takes over.

Oh and poor Hachiko had his de-sexing op the other day. He can't be walked for 2 weeks and has been whimpering in pain all day. I feel so guilty, but it had to be done. Get well soon Hachiko xxx.

Some recent chepo shopping

From Footscray Savers:

Some black and gold sandals for $3.99. They are the tame version of my much higher black with gold buckles heels. These are for when I want that colour combo but I have a lot of walking to do.

Gladiator Sandals!!! I have wanted a pair all summer but they were either to expensive or not in my size. I was so happy when I found these. They were a little expensive for Savers at $9.99 but totally worth it because they fit me perfectly. I could see other people eyeing me off when I was trying them on, but sorry I saw them 1st! I will wear these the next time we have a hot day, so hopefully soon.

From DFO Spencer Street:

For those who don't know Direct Factory Outlet or DFO for short is a HUGE factory outlet mall with locations all over Melbourne.

Country Road Necklace:

Guess how much this amazing necklace was...go on guess. Nah I'll tell you, it was only $1. Yes $1.
It didn't have a price tag and it was the only one left so I went to the counter and asked the shop girl and she said I could have it for $1. Yay for shop staff making up incredible prices because they are too lazy to check. Yay, thank you shop girl you made my day. The other necklaces at the store were all $19.95 so I defiantly got an amazing bargain with this one. Its basically my dream necklace as it's a giant chain made out of fabric...so similar to the one I almost got at mercibeaucoup in Tokyo for $100. I can't believe it was $1. Yay!

Smiggle Stationary:
I love smiggle stationary. However the DFO store doesn't seem to be discounted at all, its just set up like normal. I got this cute note book for $1.95 and the heart sticky tape for 95cents. I can't walk into smiggle without getting something because everything is just so cute and cheap.

I rarely go to DFO, but seeing as its a block from my house and next to Hungry Jacks which is what I had for lunch (so not healthy but so yum) I popped in today. I never see any clothes I want really except the Alba Fan club stuff at Jeans West (Ksubi's cheapo brand). You really should check it out because its really discounted, like $5 for some nice high waisted denim shorts and for men t-shirts for $1.50 that Henry bought heaps of at Christmas. However most of the Alba stuff is in really small sizes, hence I haven't bought any. I don't know what the suburban DFO's are like though, are they bigger than the Spencer Street store? Henry's mum is always at the Essendon airport one and wants to take me. Is it worth going to?

Style.com video has a surprise for me + Friendship

I was watching the Aoyama video on Style.com a few months ago when I got a huge surprise, Maya from Spank and the girls from Toxic Lipstick walked into the frame!!! I only just remembered it thanks to Flying Saucers post about Style.com's Intersection video's.

I always go on about how much I miss the spank girls, but this makes me miss them more. Maya is always so sweet and funny and super kind and helpful. I actually know why they were walking down Omotesando dori that day. It was the day after Spanks 3rd anniversary party Pank Ponk that Toxic Lipstick played at and Maya was showing them around Tokyo because they live in Osaka (They are Australians from Brissy by the way). Do you know how tired she would have been? She was so busy all night and well into the morning helping with the big party, but she still went and showed them around all the cool sights of Harajuku. She never thinks of herself. She was soooooo helpful when I was moving back to Australia, she helped me donate bags and bags of clothes, books and magazines (I'm talking HUGE bags here that she piled onto my bicycle that I was also giving away and rode the 35 minutes back to Koenji with virtually no visibility because of one of the bags on her lap obscuring her view...I wish I had a photo cos it was CRAZY...and she wouldn't let me help at all, or when we went to the airport she carried all my bags...she is just too nice!)

Maya I miss you so much. Thanks for the recent myspace message, I love you too.

I have realised all of my closest friends are overseas or about to leave to go overseas.

One of my closest Aussie friends is moving to London for 1 year next month so I'm seeing her a fair bit before she goes.

My best friend since primary school has been living in the UK since 1999 with me visiting her and her visiting me every few years (she is the type of friend where our distance doesn't matter, once we get together its like we were never apart, we don't even email or talk that often but we still are close if you know what I mean).

My best friend in Japan, the crazy American from Memphis, Hilary, is still living in Tokyo, albeit unhappily. She feels lonely, isolated and depressed and I wish I could be there to help her. I know how she feels. I miss Hil sooooo much. I love you Hil if you read this.

The Spank Girls, mainly Maya and Tabuchi who I became especially close to, even with the language barrier. I miss these crazy cool girls like you wouldn't believe. Our girl chats and shopping trips were always s fun.

Now all I have left is Tony (the dj who I've mentioned a bit in the past) and my hubby Henry...but you know how it is when you want a girl chat...smelly boys just wont do. I thought maybe I could make new friends at uni, but so far nothing.

What do you guys think? Do you know what I'm talking about? Are you in a similar situation at all, with friends all far away?

Sorry this inst about fashion. Fashion posts will resume tomorrow with some cool new shoes I bought at where else but Savers.

African Dress from Savers

This is the lovely dress I bought on Sunday at Dandenong Savers. It was only $5.99 with 20% off...so whatever that makes it (maths is not a strong point) it was cheap. I'm really into african, ethnic, native prints at the moment so when I saw this my heart started beating fast, I had to have it. Henry as always didn't understand or like it at first but now loves it. Why are boys always like that?
The necklace is one of many I bought at Arthur Daley's on Swanston Street. They have a huge wall of crazy necklaces which are 6 for $5. I love that place, I basically live there.
I wore my usual belt and leggings combo...I really need some new belts and comfy leggings.
I also wore my new shoes....ouch they are too high to walk in...but they are so sexy.
