Cropped Polka Dot

 photo polkadot02_zps42c39618.jpg
I wore this the other night to a RMIT fashion graduate pop up shop opening in the city. I've been eager to play with the proportion and shape of my new Gorman polka dot raincoat and what better way than with a vintage velvet midi skirt and a polka dot crop top? I'm loving the mix of textures, lengths and shapes in this outfit not to mention the double polka dot. I'm wanting to experiment more with my style now that I'm back in Melbourne, push the boundaries a little more as I'm feeling really inspired.

Outfit details
Polka dot raincoat Gorman
Polka dot crop top Vintage from Kinji in Harajuku for Y800
Velvet midi skirt Vintage from Savers for $9
Iridescent tote Sportsgirl

I've been loving the exposed midriff look for a while and as a plus size girl I don't see anything wrong with rocking the look. If you've got the confidence then go for it is what I say!

 photo polkadot04_zpsb6271eef.jpg
When I wrapped the jacket around my waist Henry said it looked like I had my period and was hiding a stain...not exactly the vibe I was going for - think 90s hip hop babe mixed with Harajuku hipster.

I got a lovely surprise package in the mail late last week from the team at Bespecd. It was out of the blue and seriously the best surprise as they sent me not one but two new pairs of glasses - the exact ones I had been eyeing off! I now have a whole specs wardrobe - I'm on my way to Lee Lin Chin glasses status - a pair for every outfit. So happy you guys ☺♥♥♥

I saw these nail art sprinkles at Sportsgirl and just had to try them out because omgosh chocolate freckles nail art - how cute!!! I followed their instructions (found on their blog) of using a base coat of nail polish, dipping your nail into the sprinkles and then letting dry before applying a topcoat. Well I'm not very happy with how long that method lasted, not even 24 hours without major major major chips. On my instagram Redvelvetrosie suggested using nail glue rather than nail polish and I think I'll try that next time.

Too Cool for School

 photo Pinafore-dress04_zps095a973c.jpg
I never had a school uniform growing up, my primary school and both my high schools were inner city public schools without uniforms for whatever reason. I remember the only rule at my high school was you had to wear shoes and one day I somehow forgot mine. You see in the early morning rush I would put my shoes on in the car to save time, but on this particular morning I got out of the car at the school gate sans shoes and only realised my mistake as my mum's car was driving round the corner. This was in the time before mobile phones so there was no way to get in touch with my mum so I just had to get on with my day as best I could and hope no one noticed. Of course that didn't work, everyone noticed and pointed until a teacher made me go through the filthy lost property box to find a pair of shoes that could work for the day. Luckily I found some unworn thongs (flip flops) that were a few sizes too small but could do for a day. You can guess I never forgot my shoes after that! Not having a uniform I used to look at the other kids on the tram in their matching school uniforms and feel sorry for them. There I was in my 90s 'grunger' outfit consisting of red flared pants with faux fur triangles, a tie-dye purple slip skirt over the top of the pants and a vintage diy cropped band t-shirt with my midriff exposed. Converse all stars were my sneakers of choice (I had metallic pink ones) and my hair would be full of an assortment of rainbow butterfly clips and hair mascara. A tattoo chocker and an armful of glitter bangles would complete my look. Essentially my outfit was the exact opposite of a boring ol' uniform but part of me thought the uniforms were rather cute, especially the pinafore dresses of a local private school. So when I saw this cute pink love heart print pinafore dress on ASOS I immediately bought it and put together a look which is in part school uniform inspired - a kawaii school uniform if you will.

This iridescent paper bag clutch was sent to me from Fashiondacci for my birthday and I love it! I wore this bag with my kawaii school uniform look as I love how it reminds my of a paper lunch bag, I thought it was very fitting.

On the weekend I bought my second pair of these colourful school uniform shoes (in purple and for 50% off), this pink pair was my first and I realised I've never blogged them before. In Australia these t-bar style shoes are the shoe of choice for most school uniforms in both primary and secondary school, of course only in brown, black or navy not pink or purple. I fell in love with these colourful ones as soon as I saw them at iShoes on Brunswick Street in Fitzroy over a year ago, I have no idea why it's taken me so long to blog them. I love reworking traditional styles of clothing in unexpected ways.

Heart melting cute

Photobucket
Sorry about the short blogging break. I jetted off to Melbourne to celebrate Christmas and ring in the New Year staying at my sister's house who *shock horror* doesn't have the internet. Yes I could have used an internet dongle but I was having too much fun catching up with family and friends which I hope is what you all have been doing this holiday season, well that and shopping up a storm at the boxing day sales. I got this amazing vintage leather biker jacket on sale on at Vintage Sole on Brunswick Street in Fitzroy and practically lived in it all week thanks to Melbourne's mild nights. Sydney wont be cold enough for it till March I think. I have been looking for a vintage biker since I lost mine one drunken night in Melbourne, the trouble was it had to be cropped as that's the most flattering cut for my large hips but all, and I mean ALL, the bikers I found were too long. Then bam, walked into Vintage Sole and saw this beauty cropped biker hanging on display on the wall, ask Henry if he thinks it will fit, he says no as he just couldn't be bothered standing around while I tried it on, I go ahead and ask the staff to get it down anyway and holy heck it fits like a glove. The price was a little high for me at $155 on sale but with Christmas money in my purse and the desire of months and months of searching and finally finding what I'd been looking for at the forefront of my mind I ignored Henry's protestations over the cost (after telling him it was only $100 anyway) and bought this baby then and there. And boy did it feel good, #YOLO #noregrets and all that.

Foiled Again

Photobucket
Tonight I was lucky enough to be invited to the opening of the new Melissa flagship store in Sydney Central Mall in Pitt Street. I've been a fan of Melissa shoes for a long, long time, buying my first pair in Tokyo many years ago. My love of all things jelly on my feet has been well documented on this here blog so I was excited to see the new store and the new collection in person. Can't say that I was disappointed  I walked away with an awesome pair of red flatforms which will be blogged soon enough. As it was the opening of a Melissa store I of course wore my fave pair of pink Melissa jelly flats which conveniently matched my new H&M x Martin Maison Margiela pink foil candy clutch that I was lucky to find on ebay for only double the retail price. I had friends stationed around the world in H&M cities trying to locate one for me when the collection dropped but it sold out so fast it looked like I was going to miss out. Of course ebay was full of them, which was disappointing as the sellers were obviously trying to cash in but then it worked out great for those of us living in countries that don't have H&M stores (yet). I love it so much!

Under the Sea

Photobucket
I wore this outfit on my first day back in Sydney, where the Spring weather has well and truly sprung. I ended up not taking any outfit photos while down in Melbourne as I absolutely h.a.t.e.d. every single thing I had packed for the trip and then struggled to find anything I loved in the shops, my fashion mojo just seemed to vanish. But boom day one of being back in Sydney and here I am loving my look and absolutely loving the weather.

Well yes me and 4 other Aussie bloggers have been asked to choose our 3 piece blogger nail polish collection from 12 as yet unreleased Revlon colours that we were all sent. Our collections and associated mood boards will then be put to the public to vote on who ends up with their collection packaged up with their blog name and in stores across the country!!! How freaking exciting is that? Its kind of mind blowing, I only know of big time celebrities having cosmetics colabs, not little ol' me. The voting opens next Wednesday 29th of August and there are prizes in it for you too, but until then let me introduce you to my Revlon Inspires collection.

The Fashion Hayley Collection
Photobucket
Say hello to Dreamer the pastel blue, Flirt the pastel pink and Zealous the pastel yellow. All three colours looked so kawaii together it was love at first sight. The soft pastel colours remind me of the land of kawaii, Tokyo, in particular Harajuku, and all the street fashion you see in FRUiTS magazine. I can imagine these used in amazing nail art designs from gradients to polkadot's and everything in between, these three colours will look cute in any combination.

Photobucket
Revlon 410 Dreamer, Revlon 250 Flirt and Revlon 560 Zealous.

The polishes all paint true to their bottle colour.

I love a good rainbow of colour on my hand.

Yes I have some polish on my finger, I am not perfect guyssss!!! haha. BUT see how it still looks cute, even with my bad paint job? That is the beauty of these colours, they just work so well together.

Mexicana-Asia

Photobucket
When I was a kid my mum used to make this dish she called Mexicana-Asia. It was a mix of whatever was left in the pantry right before pay day so it was always different but the common factor was a mix of Mexican ingredients and spices with Asian ingredients and spices. This outfit somehow reminded me of that mix, only its my Mexican blanket inspired skirt from ASOS and my Harajuku styling rather than spices, beans and noodles.

Harajuku Nails by Clara H Nails

Photobucket
As you are well aware I am an avid lover of all things Japanese, and one of my great loves is Harajuku nail art so when I heard about the amazing Clara H Nails in Melbourne I knew I had to get down there and get my nails did!!! Clara is certified by the Japan Nail Association, meaning she was trained and sat the test over in the land of crazy nails so she can and will do anything, from 3D eyeballs to intricate pieces of fruit her designs and skills are second to none in Australia.

Photobucket
My set was inspired by my recent trip back to Japan and my current obsession with eyeballs. I got Acrylic Sculptured nails as well as customised nail art, so my nails are extra strong and long, and more than two weeks later they are still going strong with no chips at all! A full list of services Clara H provides can be found here.
