On The Streets Of Sydney.com

Photobucket
I can finally reveal my big secret project (well not so secret if you follow my tweets). For the last few months I have been working on www.onthestreetsofsydney.com, my new online magazine which aims to discover the bright new creative next big things right here in Sydney. The lovely logo was designed by Natalie Perkins, a very talented artist and blogger whose work I have admired for a long time. She perfectly met the rambling brief I sent her, taking my confused and wordy emails in her stride, and the result is beyond perfect. To say I love the logo is an understatement. The site itself was built by my good friend Alicia, from Sea of Ghosts, who at one point studied web design which is obvious when you look at her blog, its so well designed. Well she has outdone herself with On The Streets Of Sydney.com, its clean and simple, easy to navigate with all the design elements I requested...and then some.

Photobucket
Yes, On The Streets Of Sydney.com is going to have street photos, how could it not? I've been taking street photos since 2001, and I'm not about to stop now. I love the whole process of street photography, and so many people who I have photographed have gone on to become my friends, so what better way to meet people in a new city than to do this?

Photobucket
Not only will the site have street fashion photos, it will also have daily Monday to Friday original content. Be it an editorial shoot or a studio visit, we will be bringing you the best that Sydney has to offer in terms of style on a daily basis. Yes I did say we, I have an amazing team of people working on this with me, you can read all about them here. I'm so lucky that everyone who I have met or spoken to about this has been very positive. It seems Sydney was in need of a site like this, and I'm just so excited by having this way to showcase and find all the hidden pockets of creativity in Sydney. I'll be learning and discovering along the way too, how good is that?

If you like and comment on our facebook page before 5pm on the 10th of December you could win a $50 Alegorie voucher. Read more about the competition here.

I would like to thank everyone who made this all possible. First off I would like to thank you, my readers, who have made everything possible with your support from the start. Thanks for putting up with my absence these last few months, its been a bit hectic to say the least. Secondly I would like to thank Alicia and Natalie for working on the building and design of the site, you guys have perfectly realised my vision, thanks and you know I love you. To my team @ontheSOS (how cool is our twitter name btw?) thanks for all your hard work at pulling the content together, without you this wouldn't be possible. Lastly thanks to my husband for putting up with the stress, the constant mess of shoots and people streaming in and out of our home (my office) almost daily.

So what you waiting for? Check out On The Streets Of Sydney.com

Sydney is, like, so LA!

Photobucket
I was invited to the Tangent Magazine pool party at The Ivy and jumped at the chance to actually tick off one of the things I wanted to do before I die, that is attend a pool party at iconic Sydney venue, The Ivy. So glad I did, as even as tacky as the venue is, its tacky in such a fun way that you sorta forget the tack and have fun. Plus it was lovely to put a face to a name and meet Emmanuel and Heather, the creative forces behind the magazine.

I got to hang out with Emily from Little Black Book and her friend, also Emily, from Emerald Couture.

I met Anya from Oui Je Suis when I first moved up here, so it was great to see her again, I was very envious of her Chanel sunnies.

Photobucket
I brought along my new Sydney pal Chloe (she is working on a new project with me, more on that soon!) Chloe happens to be Jasmine from Gala Curios's sister, see you can see she is wearing one of her bow rings. With us in the stripe top with the Chanel broach is Phoenix, a fabulous young designer based in Sydney who is seriously going places (just check out his portfolio!).

I wore my Monif C fringed swimsuit I bought in NYC as a top with my City Chic fringed skirt, Drown necklace and Urban Outfitters wedges. Chloe was wearing Shakuhachi drop crouch trousers, Juicy Couture wedges and the most awesome Mimco bag ever!

Gala Curios

Photobucket
I got a special present in the mail this week, from my friend Jasmine who is behind the jewellery label Gala Curios here in Sydney. You may remember I wrote about her collaboration with Marine Skillings last year? Well Gala Curios is her new label, which has her trademark all over it as the pieces are all reinterpretations of materials all around us. Like her collaboration with Marine where she used laser cut leather to look like lace, this new collection transforms materials such as bows, rope and lace into pendants, rings and cuffs. Isn't the packaging divine? I couldn't wait to see what was inside.

Photobucket
Inside the parcel was the beautiful Eternal Ties Pendant in lilac, a copy of the collection's lookbook (check it out online to see more of the pieces and the awesome styling) and a cute little note that read
I hope you enjoy this as much as I enjoy your blog! xx

I couldn't wait to wear it.

Black Hat: actually my brown one from Fun Accessories, photoshopped black because I am DESPERATE for a black hat like it
Dress: Big W $30
Vest: Some cheap store for at a train station in Melbourne $10
Leggings: Kinji in Harajuku $9
Black wedges: Nu+Nan $90
Black velvet bag: Savers $3
Silver claw cuff: Lovisa gift
Black resin spike bangle: Elke Kramer gift
Red plastic "diamond" ring: MOMA store in NYC $20
Necklace: Gala Curios gift from the designer

I wore that out today, sans hat, and got so many compliments on the necklace, with people wanting to touch it and get the designers info. I'm really looking forward to using pieces from the collection in upcoming shoots too. So many ideas!

Jasmine has just launched her online store and has stockists across Australia, including Alphaville boutiques in both Sydney and Melbourne.

Rooftops

This is my friend Hachi in Tokyo. He is a fashion designer extraordinaire. He lives with my old housemate in Tokyo, Gallermic, who happens to be a fashion photographer.

Gallermic and Hachi collaborated on this great fashion shoot below, using our French male model friend Pierre to model Hachi's designs.

Hachi also does women's wear, some of which has appeared in Japanese fashion magazines.

Image from Volume Japan magazine. What an amazing dress.

This dress reminds me of the now famous Balenciaga floral dress with the stitching of pieces of stiff floral fabric together. However Hachi's design came about 1 year earlier.

To contact Hachi or to see where you can maybe buy his clothes (I don't know if he is at that stage yet, I know he has finished studying now though) check out his Myspace
