How a shoot is made

On Saturday May 30, which happened to be my 25th birthday, I worked on the very 1st fashion shoot for Melbourne Street Fashion.com. This is a look into the behind the scenes action on the day of the shoot. I've kept a few looks secret so that when it goes up on the site there are still some surprise elements for you. The shoot was one of the biggest yet that I have had to organise (3 models, 1 hair stylist, 1 make-up artist, 4 stylists and a photographer not to mention getting clothes and making sure it all would work together), and for the entire week prior I was sick in bed with asthma and even on the day I wasn't 100% yet, so I'm really happy that it did all work out so perfectly. I can't wait to show you the final results but until then feast your eyes on the behind the scenes action.

Tessa doing the amazing make-up on one of our super models Caesi. This shoot had 3 models, 2 girls and 1 boy.

Make-up and accessories station. Our base was my apartment at 7:30am, yikes so early, but it was so we could get a nice morning light when we did start shooting, which wasn't until 10am anyway (hair and make-up always takes forever) All shots were done in and around Melbourne's beautiful laneways, hence my place was the ideal base as its right in the heart of the city.

Shoe stop.

Olivia, one of the stylists on the shoot (all up we had 4!) was very excited to get started.

Olivia warmed up model Anna who was freezing. Stylist Zoe looked on as Renee (hair and also stylist) decided what shoes really worked for the outfit Caesi was to wear.

Anna and Caesi warmed each other up waiting for their solo's.

Photographer Effie and her assistant Nick set to work shooting our very Jethro Cave-esque (only hotter) male model James while Renee kept an eye on the hair.

Group shot time with Renee checking up on the hair.

A sneak peak at one of my fave looks...just wait till you see the final photo, its even better.

New location, a more glam look.

James works his Blue Steel.

The unseen looks are worth waiting for, and the way Effie has shot it all is amazing. It will all be up on the site by Monday June 8th.

Oh and guess what silly quarter life crisis thing I did???

I dyed my hair pastel pink (sorry about crappy photo, it was taken with my webcam)
Tomorrow I'll post photos from my birthday party and me wearing my amazing Romance Was Born cape from Henry.

Closet Party, Ferris Beullers Gay Off

Olivia and Greta dressed up for the 80's theme. Olivia is actually wearing my top, hat, belt and shoes.

Annie Hall?

Greta made Pat's tulle bow tie.

Jarrod knows how to make an entrance!

The lovely door bitch.

Nakkiah and Nick...I haven't seen Nick since like 2003-2004 back in the old art school days.

I had a blast even though I drank way too much punch that had a surprising amount of booze in it, which meant on the way from the house party to the Closet party I had a fight with some Met Police (tram ticket inspectors) Oops! At the end of the night when I got home apparently I sleep walked naked into my housemates bedroom. Major oops! Luckily he didn't wake up, but Henry did and took me back to bed. Never again will I drink punch, you just don't know how much alcohol is in it.

A peek into the dark side

A sneaky peek into the shoot I styled on Friday. Behind the scenes photos taken on my crappy happy snap camera hence the grainy dark shots.
Shoot details:
Photographer: Chris Polak
Make-up: Caroline Massola
Hair: Jodie Watts
Models: J J and Jayde Purtell from Viviens Model Management

Thanks to:
Alegorie (Check out the Lola & Bailey necklaces, in this shoot I used "The Cat & The Canary" necklace which I'm seriously considering buying, being a stylist is dangerous for my shopping ban)

Alice Euphemia
Alicia Gramsbergen
Alpha 60
Es Trella
Fat (It was so hard to give back the black Romance Was Born cape that I made Henry buy it for my birthday...I'm not allowed to wear it until then but I am super excited come May 30 I will be wearing it every day!)
Gorman
Limedrop
Not to mention my lovely "assistant" Oliva, from Uni, who helped me calm down in the mini crisis's and was always one step ahead working on the next thing before I even had to ask!

This has to be the best shoot I have worked on to date, I am beyond happy with how every look worked out and the people I worked with on the day were all so talented, it was so inspiring.

I'm working on yet another shoot, its go go go at the moment, which is exciting.

Es Trella

I am on a shopping ban at the moment from Henry which kills me as this top needs to be mine. Fringe + studs + comfy and warm = love.

This leather cage top is to die for. Its something The Foxyman would wear well.

Such "on trend" shoulders.

Sheer panels are so sexy. You need to have a killer body to work this dress.

Jump-suit-a-licous

Fringe heaven

Es Trella is the label by the girlfriend of amazing shoe designer Tristian Blair, both of whom are stocked at Lady boutique in the city. The shoes and clothes go so well together, its almost like they were created by the one person as a whole collection rather than two separate lines, but maybe love has something to do with it? It's so sweet really.

Last time I was at Lady the pieces were flying of the shelf so quickly Petrova couldn't keep up, so you have to get in quick. I know that as soon as I walked in and saw the pieces my heart started beating faster and I wanted to buy everything in sight. Damn that shopping ban being imposed on me by Henry (well seeing as I have no job and it is his money I am spending it is fair enough, but still we are married so doesn't that count for something?)

Neo Goth loves to shop

Recently I have been feeling Neo Goth...I'm already over black and white and I'm all about texture and layering in black so some shopping was in order.
How amazing is the feather vest? It's from Scarlet & Sly in Fitzroy for $79.95.
I wore it over my Savers $6 velvet dress I bought last winter and I teamed it with my studded Zara belt from Japan for $80 and a chain link necklace I made last week. The lip and nail colour is thanks to my local nice Priceline staff, who give me freebies all the time (Ummmm I am in there every day, and when I was away for the month in Japan and went back in they all said they had missed me) Honestly its crazy how much free stuff I've been given, I haven't had to buy mascara for a year! This outfit was very popular at Uni. People kept asking me if I was going out afterwards so this is obviously my new favourite outfit!

I died when I saw this at Clear It on Brunswick Street for only $10, down from $28, the other day. Do you know how long I have been looking for a giant chain link scarf? Ever since I saw them everywhere in Japan back in 2006, and then came the famous Benetton one that Susie Bubble owns and the Yokoo etsy ones that every man and his blog has, except me. They only had Black, Navy or Khaki, so I obviously got the black seeing as I'm really feeling the Neo goth look right now. I wore it out on some errands in the cold yesterday and it was so warm and cosy.

Amazing gold chain link necklace from Fun Accesories in Fitzroy. Such a cool necklace, can't wait to wear it. It reminds me of this Sass & Bide dress that I like (ummm Sass & Bide's recent collection is actually pretty cool and they now have a city store at the GPO so I can actually see the stuff as I famously never leave the city).

Antipodium loves Make Believe

Love the cage dress.

Love the use of "real models". Apparently they were giving the crowd some attitude too. Sooooo wish I was there!

Tu-tu-rrific

Amazing necklace. Rats plus heaps of chain = yes please!

The talk of the town at RAFW (so I hear as I was unable to attend) was the amazingly styled Antipodium collection. Designed by the talented Geoffrey J Finch with the styling by none other than the lovely (sometimes, lol, in taxis his personality suddenly changes) Ryan Lobo from pages digital who was the half girl/half boy in my last post about Matt's wedding. The famed tampon Jewellery was made by Ebony and Amber who I happen to know from when we all lived in Tokyo at the same time! They make up the team at Make Believe, a used clothing online store and jewellery design studio that is seriously going places, they were interviewed by VOGUE and I saw a blurb about them in yesterday's newspaper! So excited for these girls.

Currently only the Petal to the Metal necklaces are available, but they are working on more styles as we speak. This necklace looked so good on the runway, I may just need to get myself one.

To keep up to date on their amazing journey you can read the Make Believe blog. I hope to catch up with these girls soon, I so need to head to Sydney...apparently I am a gay icon over there?
