Pineapple Heat Wave

How crazy is this heat wave Melbourne is experiencing right now? Today was a hot hot hot 43 degrees celsius which is 109.4 fahrenheit for those of you in the USA! The only way to escape the heat is to hit the local pool or stay at home with your AC on full blast. I chose the later, feeling guilty about the emissions but literally dying if I turned it off. Our house is all glass skylights and floor to ceiling windows so saying it gets HOT in here is an understatement! I actually instagram'd a photo of our glass filled lounge room the other day, I'm planning on a big blog post sharing with you all the details from my new house as my last home style post back in my Sydney apartment (which was tiny compared to this house!) was so popular. My new thing with this house is indoor plants, inspired in part by this Japanese interior design book 'Deco Room With Plants' that I got for Christmas from Henry. Talking about interiors I'm obsessed with Gorman's new homewares pop up shop and collection. I actually bought a pineapple cushion from the collection, the same pineapple print that is in my skirt above. Essentially I'm obsessed with pineapples....and Gorman haha. Seriously this season Gorman is killing it to me, I've already bought two dresses, the skirt above, jewellery, socks, a cushion and a bag and have my eyes on another skirt and dress in the sale section. Is that overkill? Will I be a label whore?

Vintage blouse Hunter Gatherer
Pineapple buttons Short Cuts Laser on Etsy
Pineapple skirt Gorman
White backpack Sportsgirl
White jelly shoes Rubi Shoes
White sunglasses Tsumori Chisato from Pet Shop Girls
Flower headbeand Lady Petrova
Yellow resin bangle Symantha Rose from Lenko

Talking about over kill, as you may be aware I like to dress in a matchy matchy manner, which isn't for everyone I guess. When I bought the pineapple skirt from Gorman I knew I had nothing in my wardrobe to go with it, luckily on the same shopping trip just accros the road on Brunswick Street at Hunter Gatherer I found this cute white vintage blouse for only $15. Immediately I envisioned replacing the buttons with some pineapple shaped ones so started browsing the etsy app over a post shopping coffee and cake. Short Cuts Laser on Etsy had the perfect buttons and I think they work really well with the whole outfit, don't you?

Still obsessed with backpacks, even if they make me look like a giant toddler.

Jelly sandals forever and ever!

Sorry about my unexplained blogging break. Gala Darling wrote a great post about dealing with blogging block inspired by a tweet of mine which is a must read for bloggers and creative's alike. I had a pretty big disappointment in my professional life - which I plan to address soon, and that, combined with some back home from Tokyo blues I just wasn't up to my usual schedule of blogging. Hopefully from now on I'll be back to regular posting, but I can't promise anything yet. I do love and miss all my readers and your lovely comments though xoxo

Rainbow Paddle Pop

 photo Walter01_zps2b882bdf.jpg
I've been wearing my new Mercibeacoup tie-dye cardigan nearly every day since I bought it, which more than makes up for its somewhat pricey price tag. A friend commented that it reminds her of a Rainbow Paddle Pop, a popular Australian icy pole (popsicle for those in the USA, ice lolly in the UK - I love the different names for things in English speaking countries, it sure made teaching English in Japan interesting) I keep pairing it back with even more tie-dye, creating a look that is even more like a Rainbow Paddle Pop don't you think? Mixing prints of the same family, in this case the tie-dye family, is often seen as a big no-no - but I say no to that no-no as breaking the rules is fun, especially when the result is so colourful. I wore this to the Walter Van Beirendonck media preview and opening night, although I jazzed up my accessories and make-up a little for the opening night party but didn't think to photograph the changes. Oh well, the day time version is still pretty rad. Thanks to my pal Laurie Luxe for taking these photos on the day xxx

This bag has served me well since I bought it a few months ago but it's pretty scuffed and scratched at this point thanks to almost daily wear. I'm thinking of just replacing it with the same bag again which is still available at Sportsgirl cos it's just so cheap and so perfect but I know that it will also end up mega scratched too. What to do?

Nail wraps never last very long on me and sadly these Meadham Kirchhoff SS12 nail wraps were a little worse for wear after just one day which you can see here. So cute though.

Cropped Polka Dot

 photo polkadot02_zps42c39618.jpg
I wore this the other night to a RMIT fashion graduate pop up shop opening in the city. I've been eager to play with the proportion and shape of my new Gorman polka dot raincoat and what better way than with a vintage velvet midi skirt and a polka dot crop top? I'm loving the mix of textures, lengths and shapes in this outfit not to mention the double polka dot. I'm wanting to experiment more with my style now that I'm back in Melbourne, push the boundaries a little more as I'm feeling really inspired.

Polka dot crop top Vintage from Kinji in Harajuku for Y800
Velvet midi skirt Vintage from Savers for $9

I've been loving the exposed midriff look for a while and as a plus size girl I don't see anything wrong with rocking the look. If you've got the confidence then go for it is what I say!

 photo polkadot04_zpsb6271eef.jpg
When I wrapped the jacket around my waist Henry said it looked like I had my period and was hiding a stain...not exactly the vibe I was going for - think 90s hip hop babe mixed with Harajuku hipster.

I got a lovely surprise package in the mail late last week from the team at Bespecd. It was out of the blue and seriously the best surprise as they sent me not one but two new pairs of glasses - the exact ones I had been eyeing off! I now have a whole specs wardrobe - I'm on my way to Lee Lin Chin glasses status - a pair for every outfit. So happy you guys ☺♥♥♥

I saw these nail art sprinkles at Sportsgirl and just had to try them out because omgosh chocolate freckles nail art - how cute!!! I followed their instructions (found on their blog) of using a base coat of nail polish, dipping your nail into the sprinkles and then letting dry before applying a topcoat. Well I'm not very happy with how long that method lasted, not even 24 hours without major major major chips. On my instagram Redvelvetrosie suggested using nail glue rather than nail polish and I think I'll try that next time.

Illuminati

 photo Illuminati01_zpsc03569b0.jpg
I spotted this iridescent tote bag from across the street and rushed inside Sportsgirl to buy it. I've been in need of a new everyday bag that fits all my crap as well as my bulky SLR so finding this was a godsend. I've only seen iridescent clutches, and I really don't need any more clutches (just ask Henry) so the fact that this is a useful and practical tote as well as being iridescent is why I rushed to buy it. Whenever I'm out shopping with Henry and I spot a bag I like, his first comment is "will your bloody camera fit"? You see, if I wear a clutch bag Henry always ends up having to carry my camera and its his most hated thing in the world (well you'd think so at least with the way he complains about it). So you could say this bag is a relationship saver too.

Arggg I hate all my flyaway hairs, anyone have any tips for how to control them and stop them from happening? My hair is so fine and there isn't much of it so I really don't need these breakages. My Bespecd glassed have been getting so many compliments which is a first for a pair of prescription specs for me so I couldn't be happier with them. The melting Chanel logo necklace from Fashiondacci reminds me of things I'd see on the streets of Harajuku. It's also rather ironic seeing as my style is the opposite of that old Coco Chanel quote "Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one thing off".

The Freak of Nature skirt from ASOS reminded me of prints I would wear in the 90's, in particular these popular singlets that I remember every teenage girl having. Thus I couldn't pass up getting the skirt although I worried about sizing but the 14 fits me perfectly.

Look how awesome the iridescent nature of this tote bag is. So much metallic rainbow goodness.

NADIA FLORES EN EL CORAZON

Photobucket
The weather finally cooled down in Sydney after a few 35 degree + days, cool enough for me to wear my new favourite piece in my wardrobe, my vintage leather biker jacket I got whilst in Melbourne. I teamed it with my new purchase from Sportsgirl, a digital print dress that I actually tried on a few weeks ago when it only came in green and decided not to buy, well that was until it came out in the pink which of course I had to have. I'm still loving my red glitter Miu Miu's from Vision Direct, I never want to take them off. Don't forget to enter my competition with Vision Direct to win a pair of designer sunglasses for yourself, entries are open internationally and close on the 23rd of January. Good luck xoxo.
