Hachiko tests out some Pedigree Light & Mature dog food

Nuffnang heard on twitter about my dog Hachiko and how the poor thing recently had an operation on his back left leg. Poor Hachi had a luxating patella, or in other words a dislocated knee cap, it often happens to small breeds, its a genetic thing. Nuffnang had a new client with Pedigree so thought they might just send me over some new diet food for Hachi. You see Hachi can't go for walks at the moment while he heals, so we are a little worried he might put on weight and his health is very important to us. So it was the perfect opportunity for us to test out this new light dog food.

I was very pleased to read that The product contains 30% less fat to reduce calories and has added glucosamine for joint health in senior dogs. While Hachi isn't a senior dog (3 years come November) he obviously has some joint problems, as his right rear leg also needs to be operated on next for the same problem. So anything that aids his joint health is a good thing for us. Also keeping his weight down is very important as of course that adds extra strain on his joints. Seriously this product came at the right time for us.

Pedigree has its own Doggie Biggest Loser Comp.

Hachi really enjoyed the food, but this comes from a dog who eats shoes, handbags, tissues and basically anything on the floor so that isn't really saying much, hehe. But the thing is we felt good knowing that this food was super healthy for him, especially at this time. We want to be able to take him to the park or his favourite cafe again real soon.

The loves of my life, Henry and Hachiko, on what turned out to be his last walk before the injury.

  1. Awwwwwwww best wishes on your recovery Hachiko!!! I was looking at puppy food for Miyuki (my puppy) the other day. The labels on the containers are SO confusing. She's 12 months old next month and the puppy box says she's an adult but it then says to feed dogs up to 21 months!?!? I don't know if she's meant to be having puppy food or adult food.

    CONFUSING

Your dog looks super cute. I love that he eats everything on the floor.

  2. I'm so glad Hachi likes the food! I know how worried you were about his eating after this operation. His spirits are sure to improve now! xo

  3. Aw! Hachi is gorgeous & I love his name!

I have 2 small dogs & they both had the same problem! Thankfully neither ended up getting surgery & have seemed to have grown out of it as they've aged.

  6. Hayley,

I had two little Pomeranians for years and those baby girls (which is how I referred to them, even when they were ten) did well, but one suffered with bad joints. She had okay legs, but her hip had a little issue... as she got older, she would wait at the bottom of our steps and wait to be carried up... she was always so patient!
You pup will be right as rain in no time and no doubt, has strong resolve! The diet dog food is a great idea.

  7. Hi hayley
Just read this post and i dont want to sound rude or anything but im a qualified veterinary nurse (as well as a vintage clothing store owner, strange mix i know!)and would really suggest trying a super premium food such as "advance" the cost per feed usually is the same as the better supermarket food. The reason i say this is that there is a massive difference in the research behind the food they also have a "light" food which works wonders for them inside and out (their coat goes super shiny!)... as i said i dont want to sound like pedigree is bad or anything, it should def assist in the weight loss, but there is alot better.. its just supermarket foods are marketed on TV and such so highly , unlike super premium food ,so people are not usually aware unless they speak to their vet.... AND MEZ.. if your dog is a small breed it is fine to go off puppy food at 12 months, we recommend up to about 1.5 years for large breed dogs, as with the small breeds they have less growing to do and puppy food has a high fat content so if its not being used for growth it goes to all the wrong places :-) xx
