I'm so excited

and I just can't fight it. I'm about to loose control and I think I like it.

lol sorry about that, its just in my head right now.

Wanna know what I'm excited about? Well it's not exactly fashion related but it is great news.

Well as a present for my mum and sister I am paying for them to come over to Japan in April 2009. I will be on Uni holidays from Korea so I'll meet them in Tokyo and show them around Tokyo for 1 week and then 1 week of travel to Kyoto, Osaka, Nara, Himeji, Kobe and Hiroshima. To most people this isn't that exciting, but for my family it is. I'm the only person in my family who has been overseas, so this is my Mum and Sisters first time. My mum really deserves this trip, she was a single mother and worked really hard to raise us while she was also a full time Law student. Not only that but for the last few years she has been the carer for my grandparents (my Nana died last May so Mum only cares for my Pa now who has Alzheimer's) and she hasn't been on a holiday for years.
Osaka-jo, Osaka.

Kinkakuji, Kyoto. Otherwise known as the Golden Temple. One of my favourite places in Kyoto.

Fushimi-inari, Kyoto. So beautiful, another favourite place of mine in Kyoto. Heck I loved all of Kyoto.

Himeji-jo, Himeji. This is known as the "most beautiful castle in Japan" and it defiantly is.

Akihabara, Tokyo. You can see where I bought my 2nd hand laptop while I lived there.

Asakusa, Tokyo. This photo is from my 1st trip to Tokyo in 2004 when we stayed in a hostel in this area. I love Asakusa, Senso-ji is such a beautiful temple, its my favourite in the whole of Japan.

Takeshita Dori, Harajuku, Tokyo. Shopping and people watching paradise.

I am so excited to be able to do this for them. It is going to be cherry blossom season so Japan will be so beautiful. My mum will love all the temples and gardens and my sister will love the shopping and healthy food. Jetstar have really cheap flights so it's not going to cost me too much money either, they are going to save their own spending money and we are going to stay at backpacker hostels so accommodation is only $20-ish a night each. We are going to get the 1 week JR rail tourist passes which are only $285 each and mean we have unlimited travel on the shinkansen (Bullet train) so we can travel to all the major cities and tourist spots all over Japan. I'm only able to do this because of my Uni scholarship money (I can spend it on anything I want). This has been my dream for a long, long time, I just thought I won't be able to do it yet, not until I was working full time at least.

This is 99% happening. I will find out by August for sure. I'm also excited about organising it all, I love organising and researching accommodation, making lists and planning itineraries. My mum and sister are excited too. It will be great just being the 3 girls again (Henry isn't coming as he will be busy working here in Melbourne) I know that we will probably fight and get on each others nerves staying in small hostel rooms, but it will all be worth it.

I wanted them to come over when I actually lived there but it was a difficult time as my Nana was really sick. This is the best time for them to come, and it's so perfect that it will be cherry blossom season. Yay. Oh and they can meet all my friends in Tokyo, and see where I used to live and my sister can come out and party with me and see how fun it is in Toyko. Ohhhh I love having something fun to look forward to, it will make the next few months at Uni go past really fast. Yay.

  6. What a lovely thing to do for your mum - it sounds like she really needs and deserves a trip like that one. I hope the other 1% falls into place. It's funny we were just talking the other night about our fantasy trip to Japan - a month in Kyoto during cherry blossom time staying in ryokan the whole time. Well, it's nice to dream!

  11. Hello Hayley,
I've been to most of those places in Japan and those images do take me back! I miss Japan so much. They'll love it, such a great place to venture to for the first time overseas :) You are so incredibly generous and your mother sounds like she REALLY deserves this! Being a single mother PLUS undertaking law studies, either one of those feats is commendable. Go you!!

you have to try and go to takayama if you can even squeeze that in!!! i've never stayed at backpackers before but you might want to check out toyoko inn. it's small but very clean and cheap too. plus, very very yummy onigiri and miso soup breakfast which you can totally fill yourself up on (and i sometimes sneak a couple into my bag to eat later in the day! hee hee!)

i hope everything works out for you!!!
