White Out

I wore this outfit to go to the Tokyo Design Festa at Tokyo Big Sight in Odaiba. Tokyo Big Sight is kinda a futuristic place so I wanted to look kinda futuristic myself. I think I achieved this no? Or at least wearing head to toe white just seems very futuristic to me because obviously in the future stains are a thing of the past thanks to advanced fabric technology...or something. Anyway, I bought the skirt with the jumper arms just before I left for Tokyo from a local Melbourne label called Verner. Headed up by Ingird Verner who used to be the V in my favourite old Melbourne label TV (The T being Monica Tywanek) the new label brings that playful punch that I miss ever so much from TV. The kawaii laundry powder motif reminds me of the now iconic Simpsons episode where Homer finds his likeness the star of a Japanese dish washing powder commercial as 'Mr Sparkle', but maybe that's just me? I really like that the jumper arms are actually functional and the skirt can be worn both as a jumper or a skirt. It's that playful punch that I love in fashion.

I've been a long time fan and supporter of Brandon from Lactose Intoler-Art's work, first blogging his Japanese street style inspired drawings back in 2008. He's come a long way since then, moving to Tokyo himself, getting stockists of his jewellery and soon to be launched clothing range and collaborating with a Singapore based designer on a collection that walked the runway at Seoul fashion week!!! I actually will be blogging a home/studio visit I did with him whilst in Tokyo, plus a little video we filmed really soon (I promise Brandon!!!). I love this necklace he gave me so much and felt it was fitting to wear it to Tokyo Design Festa.

This backpack ended up being a total bust. I wore it one day with a pink dress and somehow the pink transferred onto the bag. I thought it must have been the dress so I replaced the bag for the same one and then sadly the same thing happened again - I wore it with a green dress and the bag turned green. The bag was only $20 and there was no point in trying to return or exchange it - often there are no return or exchange polices at stores in Japan, plus explaining it would've been a nightmare. So $40 down the drain and no bag to show for it. Oh well, it just goes to show you that buying cheap shit just ain't going to last you.

Vlogging to you live from TOKYO

Recently I've become addicted to youtube beauty guru's like never before, I mostly watch their day in the life of videos or house tours and I especially love a good make-up storage video so I thought, hey I can do that why not get more into vlogging? Now as you may know I actually started this here blog in Tokyo back in 2006 so I thought my trip to Tokyo would be the perfect time to start my 'vlogging career' - a good omen so to speak. I have done a few youtube videos here and there over the years but never really had a consistent uploading schedule but I aim to change that and get stuck into sharing at least one video a week from now on. So here are my vlogs from my first day in Tokyo featuring Brandon from Lactose Intoler-Art and his friend Manon from Amsterdam. The first video is of us meeting up in Koenji and checking out some local vintage and remake shops. First stop was to see Brandon's new necklaces in the Hayatochiri shop in the Kitakore building!!! Then we all tried on some pieces at Cathy also in the Kitakore building. What dress do you think I should buy? I was leaning towards the patchwork dress with the 'secret C' but Henry prefers the apple dress. Please help a girl out and lemme know in the comments below.


Taking off from where Part 1 left us on the train to Shimo Kitazawa follow us as we head to the retro izakaya and discover the strange and cheap food on offer. Next stop was some Purikura (print club sticker photos) choosing the Milk Beauty machine in honour of Brandon's lactose intolerance. Then watch as I shout it out to Nicki Minaj in the Karaoke booth while Manon perfects her 80's male singer deep voice and Brandon melts hearts with his amazing rendition of "Part of This World" from The Little Mermaid. Karaoke is always the best end to an evening in Tokyo.

Last Days in Tokyo

The spot in Yoyogi Park in Harajuku where on May 5th 2007 Henry and I got married, yep that was 5 years ago now, can't believe it! It was great to go back together with our new friends Brandon and Sofie. I picked up my skirt the day before at the Vintage store WeGo in Shimokitazawa for Y780.

On my birthday we went to Tokyo Disney Sea, which is the only Disney Sea in the world. It was my first visit to Disney Sea, I've been to Tokyo Disney Land 5 times now so it was time for a change, although I did end up deciding I prefer Tokyo Disney Land over Disney Sea.


My 6th pair of Minnie Mouse ears, I get a new style every time.


My bestie Hillary gave me this giant Happy Birthday Sembei (rice cracker) and we brought it with us to Disney Sea. My nails are Nail Rock from ASOS.

Henry is an Interior Architect and had seen this building on Dezeen before our trip and had hoped to perhaps find it. The address information is secretly guarded but we just so happened to be staying less than one block away and Henry somehow recognised the shape of a round-a-bout from an unmarked map he had showing its location, super super lucky!


My friend Rachel's shop ilil in the Kitakore building in Koenji, aka the craziest series of shops in a building that the store owners build and add to constantly. Its an ever changing maze of crazy.

We went to a "Private Party" at Harajuku's number one department store, LaForet. Lots and lots of Harajuku kids dressed amazingly were in attendance but my camera ran out of battery.


My friend Yann's store Wut Berlin in Harajuku is always a must visit for me. It was great to see my friend Ebony Fluer's new jewellery line of the same name. You probably know her previous brand, Make Believe, she made the large black resin flower necklace I always wear.

I got sick on our trip and Henry forced me to wear a face mask to aid off further infection, but it just made me grumpy.

Shopping in Tokyo

Shopping in Tokyo is always fun and on my recent trip back I sure had a whole lotta fun! How kawaii are the shopping bags above? The bags alone are reason enough to want to shop in Tokyo. I thought I would share with you some of my favourite buys from vintage stores and boutiques that I love and always try to visit when I'm back in Tokyo, the land of super fun shopping!


As you can see I went prints crazy and this isn't all of it!!! Tokyo is great for finding cheap amazing vintage but its also great for finding hard to come by designer pieces too. Prices are pretty random to be honest, some places the vintage pieces are all $4, and other places your looking at $150 for similar stuff. It helps to know where to go and what to look for.

Accessories are so fun and cheap in Tokyo. Everywhere you look, especially in Harajuku, there are cute amazing things for not a lot of $$$. It pays to be careful of fakes but sometimes its hard to tell. I went eyeball crazy this trip.

Toni & Guy Hair Meet Wardrobe

Back in February I blogged about me being in front of the camera for a change for Toni & Guy's blogger Hair Meet Wardrobe 'Blogged & Bound' campaign shoot & video. Well I can finally reveal to you the results! The project got together 20 of Australia's most influential fashion bloggers and I was lucky enough to be included. Each of us had a photo shoot with a special set created to suit our blogs aesthetic with the final images being published in a 100 page book. The video, above, is a sort of day in the life of me complete with a little fake photo shoot that Henry and Adeline kindly helped me out on, thanks guys! The whole point of both the video and photo shoot was to express my personal Harajuku influenced style and I think the team behind both did a fantastic job, from set creation to location scouting everything was spot on and very very me. I hope you enjoy a little peak into my home and life in the video and like the final results of the photo shoot. Mercibeaucoup to you and you

I LOVE Mercibeaucoup. Have ever since I went to their Japan Fashion Week parade back in 2007. I have been eagerly awaiting some runway photos from their Autumn/Winter 2010 show which happened last week, but am yet to find any. So shit that I wasn't there, but am slightly over not being in Japan for 2 months and going to JFW like planned because, yes things are good here (I have to keep reminding myself). Alicia said there will be a reason why I didn't go and I think I know what that is now...some very exciting stuff is happening. Even so, seriously I am like an addict needing a fix of Japan every 6 months and if I don't get it I go through withdrawals good things happening here or not. Anyway lets talk about fashion shall we? These are my fave looks from the above cutesy video lookbook of their Autumn/Winter 2010 collection.


This dress is the one that I want, oh o oh. Tartan, a-line with some faux flowers amazing. Crazy shark bite jumper is so cool, but what I love most is the seemingly bizarre styling that works oh so well. Japan teaches you that actually no, patterns can clash, colours can mash and shapes can, well be shapey, and still look totally cool.


You all know I love a good arms out dress. By that I mean a dress that looks totally amazing when your arms are spread out like when your a kid playing aeroplanes. It mean's you behave more dramatically in said dress, or at least I do, and who doesn't love drama in fashion (or life?). I'm really excited by the big blue rossette scarf thing. Texture, flowers and cobalt blue, remember how much I love you? Oh and the tartan wedges, they are sure to break my heart with Japan's small shoe sizing, with only S, M or L available when I'm at least and LL (which exists occasionally but fits me rarely)


Hold on a minute isn't this jumper the MOST AMAZING jumper ever in the history of Jumpers? Fuck me dead I'm in love. The pantaloons are so kawaii its killing me, oh man what I would give to have this collection available to me for styling, it just gives me so many ideas. Oh and look at their take on grunge, the flanny shirt gets taken to super cute levels with a cinched in waist and non matching collar.



Mercibeaucoup never fail to excite your senses and they ALWAYS deliver a seriously fun collection with equally fun styling to get your mind racing. If you get to go to Japan you have to visit their Aoyama store too, it is like nothing you have ever seen before, a secret entrance takes you into a padded fantasy world. It's my fave spot in Tokyo for sure!

Romance Was Born + Tokyo Bondi

A reader kindly let me know about the Romance Was Born pop up store in Paddington and I had to go check it out right away being the RWB fan that I am. I was told it was just a hole in the wall, and it literally is.




The dark hallway leads you to the "mermaids lair" which is full to the brim with a barnacle of Romance Was Born delights.


Oh look here its the controversial crochet print that Cate Blanchett wore to a film event in Melbourne. Controversial to the conservative fashion reporters at certain news establishments. My thing with that is I always love the clothes in the "not" or "worst dressed" sections anyway, ha.




The store is a treasure trove of all things Romance Was Born. If your in town you HAVE to check it out ASAP because it's not there for long. You can find it at 2a Glenmore Road, Paddington, right next door to Kirrily Jonhston.


I ended up doing exactly the same thing as I did yesterday, started out in Paddington and then headed down to Bondi to meet up with friends.

Again I am so happy I came to Sydney. I've had such a fun trip I think I'll be back more often.
