Hair & Shakuhachi

Photobucket
If you follow me on twitter you would have seen last night that I dyed my hair back to my natural dark blonde that I haven't seen since I was about 13 years old. I acted out of a mixture of boredom and frustration at my hair and its never ending roots needing to be coloured at a costly $160 per salon visit. I regretted it as soon as I saw it though. It doesn't help that I'm also in the process of growing out my fringe as it just didn't work in the heat and humidity of Sydney. So I'm testing out a new asymmetric hair style, which is actually pretty easy to do. Essentially I'm dealing with crap growing out hair and a bad colour. Yes there were tears. Anyway this morning I woke up and with no choice but to get on with life bad hair or not and decided to try to cheer myself up by wearing out my new Shakuhachi dress, bought on sale at their Paddington store for $130. I pretty much love it, the perfect babydoll shape that suits me, plus the different denim panels and the pockets give it that edge that I'm always after. I wore my Estelle Deve Somni necklace and my new Rubi Shoes buckle wedges I bought for $39.

The wedges had their wedge heel come off the shoe after just one wear, which I was not happy about at all. Yes they are cheap shoes, but cheap shoes should last longer than one wear no? Anyway they didn't have the style left to exchange with so I went and paid $30 for them to be re-glued. So essentially my cheap $39 shoes became not so cheap $69 shoes. That being said they are the most comfortable wedges I own so to me it was all worth it, as long as it doesn't happen again that is!

  2. I don't think you look bad with that hairstyle! I also like the asymmetrical fringe look myself and it is low maintenance which is what i need. I'm sorry to hear about your toe. I know exactly how painful it can be because as it is, I've hobbled around the last 2 days because someone stepped on mine hard and it went purple.

  5. Your hair looks great in the photos, as does your cool new dress. Can't believe Rubi Shoes wouldn't transfer a new pair to you!! Shocking service, if they couldn't replace them they should have paid to fix them... they are cute though :)

  7. That always happens me and my shoes. Even if cheap shoes can have a shorter wardrobe-life, you should get more than one wear. That said, they are pretty nice wedges!

  10. I think your hair looks lovely! Perhaps you'll come to like it in a week or so, it always seems to go like that after a big change!

  11. I love your hair. You look amazing and I actually like your hair colour! IT's actually a nice change and your natural hair colour is my favourite shade of blonde.

I like this outfit, you usually don't wear light colours (I remember at least) and blue is really nice on you. Love!

  12. It's a great summer dress that looks pretty on you!

I think your hair looks perfectly fine. I tried to do the blonde for a while a few years ago but gave up because of the $$$ too. Being blonde sure is a habit. I'd rather just have roots

  13. I've totally been there with the hair tears. Several times. But it's so true what they say about the difference between a good hair cut and a bad one - about a week. So hang in there. I now have a kind of zen philosophy when it comes to hair, you can always change it if you really decide you hate it.
I love that dress and I think the money to fix the shoes will be worth it, you never know which shoes are gonna turn out to be your favourites, huh? Cheapies or not, they need to be in your life.

  15. The hair looks great Hayley - I like the side fringe on you. Hair change always feels kinda freaky, though, I know!! Glad that things are going well in Sydney for you.

  16. Ugh, I feel your pain about having a fringe in the heat. It's the pits. I really like your natural colour though, it's a good change me thinks.

Shakuhachi has been good to me llately as well. Currently trying not to go crazy on their online sale at the moment.

  17. Your hair does look very cute but I can see that it would be hard, with your old style being so much a part of your look for so long. Give it time.

  20. I actually prefer your hair like this! It suits your face shape.
I have the same heels (in cream). The soles also fell off on the first wear but by that time I'd got them dirty! They're also quite uncomfortable around the toe area... what at first seemed like a great bargain is now a regret purchase. Still, they look good...

  23. I love your dress and shoes...and I totally feel your pain with growing out your fringe. I've been growing out a long bob + fringe that I had cut last Feb for the past 12mths! Nearly there! NHG x

  25. Awesome outfit as always and I think the hair colour is gorgeous! I'm growing out my blunt fringe too. Sweat + hair = not nice... 26. Hayley - I am just catching up, but gasped when I saw your picture in this post.

Honey - wow. The hair, clothing, shoes, pose(!!) - you look amazing.

  27. Honestly, I think your hair looks gorgeous! The colour suits you (as natural hair colour should! I can't talk though....)!!

I bought a pair of clogs from rubi shoes and the stitching snapped the 2nd or 3rd time I wore them...kinda crap!

    love your blog :)

    xx

  28. Here are my favourite shoes again! There's something to be said about quality, but if they're that comfortable, it's worth the dosh to upkeep them xxx
